Kermit Hinkel

Kermit J. Hinkel, 85, of Gettysburg, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Avera Oahe Manor, Gettysburg.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the German Zion Cemetery, Tolstoy, with Pastor Jeff Adel presiding.
Kermit John Hinkel was born on May 14, 1934 to John and Gilma L. (Kline) Hinkel, Jr. at Pisgah, Iowa. He attended school in Pisgah. Kermit married Norma Dilley and they had two sons. He joined the United States Air Force in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1960.
In 1976 Kermit married Wanda Dutt, and one daughter, Sarah, was born to this couple. The family made their home in Gettysburg, where he lived for the remainder of his life.
Kermit held various jobs over his lifetime. He worked as a mechanic, operated a gas station, helped area farmers, and was an over the road truck driver.
Kermit loved to hunt deer and pheasants. He also enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together, especially the Terry Redlin puzzles.
He entered the Avera Oahe Manor in 2017.
Kermit is survived by his wife, Wanda of Gettysburg; daughter, Sarah (Corey) Nelson of Hartford, SD; sons, Rod (Deb) Hinkel of Woodbine, IA, and Wesley (Jenny) Hinkel of Lesville, LA; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister, Cleona (Orville “Bud”) Wilson of Mondamon, IA; brother, Larry (Tina) Hinkel of Mapleton, IA; brothers and sister-in-law: Jerald Dutt of Tolstoy, Robert Dutt of Hoven, and Melvin (Robin) Dutt of Newell, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Lyle and Earl.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Kermit’s arrangements.

Wanda & Family so sorry to hear of Kermit's passing. Met him in 2007 when we were in Tolstoy when we stopped at Jerald's to chat with you all. My daughter Janet bought a turquoise & white car from you in the early 80's. She LOVED that car !!!! Wanda stay strong & always remember the good times Kermit & you had. RIP Kermit
