Laudine Pearl Condon was born on February 01, 1967 in Eagle Butte, SD to Faye (Flying By) and Chester Condon. She spent her childhood years in the community of Cherry Creek, where she grew up with her sisters and many cousins, Cherry Creek was always “Home” to her. They spent a lot of time together, always entertaining themselves at home in Cherry Creek, running along the hills, playing in the mayasapa’s, building actual forts, having powwows, giveaways, talent shows & church services in the family basement, sledding in the winter and going swimming during the summertime. She loved going to “white dances” in Cherry Creek were everyone would be dancing away and she was usually the one to pass a hat around for the Country Skins or Iron Eagle/Wyman & Company bands so they could play a little longer.
Lala Moses was a United Church of Christ minister for the west end area of the Cheyenne River reservation, so the family & kids spent a lot of time in church, celebrating baptismals, confirmations, birthdays & holidays, learning the songs of the Dakota Olowan hymnals, which Laudine knew very well. She was one of “Grandma Leona’s girls,” and they would sing along with Grandma, who had the most beautiful voice. Laudine was always the craziest one of the bunch, she enjoyed dressing up for Halloween and New Year’s powwow masquerades (where she usually won 1st Place), it was always a fun time watching her, especially when you didn’t know it was her, she was so comical. Everyone has stories to tell when it comes to Laudine, she was just a fun person and there are so many good memories of her. She had an infectious laugh and loved to joke around. Laudine was also a very respectful person, she believed in both her Christian faith and in the Lakota ways of our people, she was a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. She could speak Lakota and also learned to speak Spanish fluently. Laudine didn’t have any brothers of her own and her cousin Nathan Benoist “Big Nate” was always special to her and the nearest to having a brother.
Laudine moved to Utah with her children where she remained until the time of her passing on September 21, 2026.
