Laurel Azure

Laurel Azure, 44, of Fort Thompson, died Monday, June 11, 2007 at the Mid-Dakota Hospital in Chamberlain.

Funeral services were held at 1:00p.m., Thursday, June 14, 2007 at the Tribal Hall in Fort Thompson. Burial was in All Saints Cemetery, Fort Thompson, directed by Luze Funeral Home, Highmore. Wake service were held at 7:00p.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at the Tribal Hall in Fort Thompson.

Laurel was born September 24, 1962 to Levi and Ernestine (Middletent) Azure in Chamberlain. She was employed at the Crow Creek Tribal School and has been for 17 years. She was recently working for her 4-year degree at Lower Brule Community Center and Sinte Gleska University.

She enjoyed family, friends, and working hard at whatever she did. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and a very good friend.

Laurel is survived by three sons: Lee Azure, Shane Smith, and Sean Smith; one daughter Sugar Azure; her mother Ernestine Azure; two sisters: Charlene Azure and Camilla Azure; four brothers: Leonard Azure, Darrel Azure, Daniel Azure, and Bruce Azure; adopted sisters: Lori Seeking Land, Margie Cook, Karen Voice, Arlene Voice, and Loylee Cook; three grandbabies: Tyson Azure, Amarie Shields and Capris Azure; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father Levi Azure; grandmother and grandfather Adeline and Ernest Middletent; brother Loren Azure; one aunt and four uncles.
