Lawrence Gabriel, 81, of Miller and formerly of Harrold, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital, Miller.

Funeral service were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the New Life Assembly of God in Pierre with Pastor Daryn Pederson officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blunt. Visitation began at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at New Life Assembly of God in Pierre.

Lawrence Roy Gabriel was born March 28, 1934 to Egnatz and Theresa (Hoffert) Gabriel at Onaka, SD. He married Virginia Anderson at Lebanon, SD, November 2, 1953. To this union was born: Jackie Gabriel, Patricia (Ken) Huckfeldt, and Michael (Mariann) Gabriel. He married Doralyn Dempsey at Pierre, SD, December 16, 1977.

Lawrence enjoyed family gatherings (large and small) where he often entertained by singing, dancing, playing guitar or drums, and the fan favorite the accordion! He loved his family! He also enjoyed gardening, and yard work, sitting in the yard visiting with neighbors, “coffee-time” with friends, riding bikes, taking walks, going for a drive, and playing cards, all with his “Sweetie” by his side.

Lawrence enjoyed working with his hands: He worked in his “Million Dollar Junk Yard” making wooden planters, picture frames, bookcases, metal-work lawn ornaments and he was currently drawing up plans to make a yard ornament that he’d seen on a recent trip to Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Dorie; his son; Michael (Mariann) Gabriel, step-children; Forrest, Dennis, Jacob, and Patrick Towers, Sherri (Jerry) Dittman, and Aaron Dempsey, grandchildren; Joe (Irish) Gillaspie, Patrick, Jerry and Bill Huckfeldt, Jessica Fernandez, Joshua (Amy) Gabriel, Elizabeth and Shawn Schulz, step-grandchildren; Amber (Jeff) Peterson, Alec (Tiffany) McQuisten, Kera (Joel) Towers, Brooke, Carlee and Katie Sanders, Logan and Cade Wurts, great-grandchildren; Brilie and Amara Schulz, Mia, Jace, and Alexa Fernandez, Madison and Kassidy Huckfeldt, Aryanna and Logun Gillaspie, step-great-grandchildren; Baine and Michael Towers, Joseph, Nancy, Emilee Peterson, Haley Baker, sisters-in-law; Viola Gabriel, Gwen Painter, Marcie Hershman, Jackie Dolliver, One brother-in-Law; Norvel Lentz; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters; Jackie and Patricia, seven brothers, five sisters, and one grandson.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Lawrence arrangements.

  8. Gabe was one of my favorite people, he always wore a smile and had a kind word to say! Funny but when I see bologna I think of him patting his tummy saying I love my sandwiches! Dorie, take care and know those of us at SJS will be praying for you!
