LeRoy Johnson, 87 years, 8 months, and 24 days, of Orient, died Saturday, November 4 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.

Funeral service was 11:00a.m. Thursday, November 9 at Orient Lutheran Church with Pastor Westerlund officiating. Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery, Orient, directed by Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton. Visitation was 1:00-6:00p.m. Wednesday with family present from 4:00-6:00p.m. at the funeral home.

LeRoy was born March 12, 1919 to Robert and Clara (Anderson) Johnson of Orient. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and remained a lifetime member of Orient Lutheran. He served on the church board, was usher for many years, sang in the church choir and helped out wherever and whenever needed. He, along with his brother Harold and Elton Burke, maintained Prairie View Cemetery for more than 20 years.

On April 11, 1942, LeRoy was inducted into the U.S. Army and was trained to be a Surgical Technician and served in the European Theater. On July 17, 1944, he was wounded at Normandy. For his military service he was awarded the American Theater Service Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Theater Service Ribbon, The Bronze Star and The Purple Heart. LeRoy received his honorable discharge on December 3, 1945. He was a member of the Orient American Legion.

After returning home the military, he farmed with his brothers until his retirement in 1991.

He is survived by his sister: Gladys Danahy of Parker, CO; brothers: Wilferd of Faulkton, Burton of Rock Island, ILL and Delmer (Blanche) of Branson West, MO; godchild: Bob Johnson of Eugene, OR; sister-in-law: Delores Johnson of Carol Stream, ILL; brother-in-law: Winston Johnson of Hector, MN; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Viola; brothers: Rudy, Vernon, Harland, Harold, and Ralph.

The family request memorials to Prairie View Cemetery and sent to Gladys Danahy, 21249 Woodside Lane, Parker, CO 80138.
