Lloyd Payne

Lloyd Payne, 92, of Orient, passed away, Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 5. 2013 at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton, with Pastor Tammy Craker officiating. Burial followed at Prairie View Cemetery, Orient with military honors. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service.
Lloyd Edwin Payne was born June 23, 1920 in Faulk County, SD to Clinton and Katharine (Waldner) Payne. He attended grade school at Onaka and graduated from Faulkton High School in 1939.
In August 1944 he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Camp Crowder, MO and spent time briefly in the Hawaiian and Philippine Island and also did a short tour in Japan. Lloyd was honorably discharged in August 1946.
In 1950 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from SDSU at Brookings. He went to work for the Boeing Company in Wichita, KS from 1952 to 1968. At that time he returned to the Payne Family Farm in Spring Township, Hand County, Southwest of Orient. He enjoyed farm work and loved helping neighbors of the community with hay baling and harvesting alfalfa seeds.
He was a member of the Audubon Society and enjoyed time reading, storytelling and taking photographs.
Lloyd is survived by his cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alma (Glen) Bowman; and brother, Harold (Betty) Payne.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Lloyd’s arrangements.
