Lorren Kilian, 75, of Gettysburg, passed away, Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Gettysburg, with Pastor Suzie O’Connell officiating. Burial followed in the Gettysburg Cemetery. Visitation was held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2009 with the family present at Luce Funeral Home in Gettysburg.

Lorren Earl Kilian was born November 6, 1933 at Gettysburg, SD to Harry Oscar and Nora (Paulson) Kilian. He grew up in the Gettysburg area where he attended school through the 9th grade.

On June 26, 1955 he married Carletta Mary Vail at the Congregational Church in Lebanon.

Lorren started as a teenager working on farms in the Onida, Lebanon and Gettysburg areas. He was manager of Dakota Cattle Company, then a partner of K & K Ranch and later owner of Kilian Cattle. He retired into Gettysburg in 2008 due to health reasons.

Lorren had many interests over the years, including horse racing, spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards and in later years watching old westerns and horse racing on television. One of his greatest interests in life was working with cattle.

He was a member of the Army National Guard from 1956-1962, the Gettysburg Range Riders, was awarded the Friend of 4-H and announced at achievement days. He was baptized and became a member of the United Methodist Church in 1971.

Lorren’s life will be cherished by his wife Carletta Kilian of Gettysburg; five children: Debra (Roger) Pauli of Milbank, Cheryl (Gene) Dittus of Gillette, WY, Karen (James) Slunecka of Faulkton, Janet (Larry) Trapp of Milbank and David (Julie) Kilian of Gettysburg; 15 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister: Betty (Bill) Herman; twin sister: Lorrayne  Erickson and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Harry and Nora Kilian; Brothers: Leo, Keith, Harry Jr. and Mick and sister, Norita.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Lorren's arrangements.
