Luane K. Lichty, 93, of Wessington, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.

Funeral Service was held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2020 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller, with Father Paul T. Josten officiating.  Visitation began one hour prior to the funeral service.  Private burial was held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Wessington. 

Luane Katheryn was born December 9, 1926 to John and Elizabeth (Wernsman) Lakner at her parent’s home, north of Wessington. She was baptized, made her first communion and confession into the Catholic faith. She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wessington. She attended grade school in Gilbert Township and graduated from Wessington High School in 1944. Luane attended college at Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen. She taught several years in different one-room country schools in Hand and Beadle County.

On September 28, 1948, Luane was united in marriage to William (Bill) Carroll Lichty. God blessed them with three children. Luane was an active partner in the farming operation, continuing after the death of her husband in 1972. She enjoyed setting jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo and especially playing cards with her friends and family.

She will be missed by her son, Lee (Marla) Lichty; daughter, Judy (David) Boomsma; six grandchildren: Leslie (Scott) Brenton, Heather (Dennis) Nichols, Lance (Kirsten) Lichty, Derrik Boomsma, Jay (Heidi) Boomsma and Kim (Ryan) Bergh; thirteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters: Vivian Jones and Patricia Naber; two sisters-in-law: Agnes Koeck and Evelyn Lichty; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Lonnie Bentley; her parents; in-laws; three brothers; two sisters-in-law; and four brothers-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to AseraCare Hospice, 528 N Sycamore Ave, Sioux Falls, SD 57110 or Good Samaritan Society, 421 E. 4th Street, Miller, SD 57362.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Luane’s arrangements.
