Lydia M. Bieber, 94, of Gettysburg, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Oahe Haven, Gettysburg.


Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, November 12, 2012 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Daniel Tews officiating. Burial followed in the Gettysburg Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service.


Lydia M. Bieber was born July 22, 1918 to William and Christina (Bauder) Schilling at Lowry, SD. She grew up and received her education in the Lowry area. 


Lydia married Alvin Bieber on June 27, 1939.  They lived on a farm southwest of Lowry until they moved to Gettysburg in 1955.  Lydia worked at the bakery for four years, operated the Hiway Café for one year, and started the school lunch program in 1958.  Lydia and Alvin owned and operated Westside Grocery for 16 years.  She also worked at the Gettysburg Hospital as a dietician, cleaned at her church, Luce Funeral Home and Buechler Dental Clinic.


Lydia was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, and VFW Auxiliary.


She is survived by one daughter, Donna (Robert) Hudson, Canon City, CO; one son, David, Gettysburg; three grandchildren: Stacey (James) Wilkerson, Palmer Lake, CO, Rob (Linda) Hudson and Jason Hudson all of Colorado Springs, CO; five great grandchildren: Clio and Robin Wilkerson, Palmer Lake, CO, Colby, Hayden, and Christopher Hudson, Colorado Springs, CO; and many nieces and nephews.


Lydia is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, on February 16, 1989; her parents; daughter, Sandra; sisters: Katie Schmitgel and Rose Beitelspacher; brothers: Jake, Bill, Edward, Christ, and Fred.   


Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Lydia’s arrangements.
