December 4, 1931 ~ April 8, 2016

Marie Rose (Demery) LeBeau entered the spirit world on April 8, 2016, at the Golden Living Center in Pierre, South Dakota.

No services will be held.

Marie was born December 4, 1931 at Fort Yates, North Dakota, to Fred and Annie (Vermillion) Demery.

On October 16, 1950, she married Melvin Louis LeBeau and they were blessed with three children--Debbie, Antone and Cathey. After the birth of their first child Debbie, they moved to Minneapolis, MN. In spring of 1975, they moved back to Eagle Butte where she worked as a cook at the Indian Health Service hospital, eventually retiring from the Sacred Heart Center in Eagle Butte.

Over the years Marie and Melvin really enjoyed fishing the rivers and lakes of South Dakota, it didn’t matter if it was 90 degrees or 20 degrees, you could find them with their fishing poles in the water patiently waiting for the next big one.   Marie also loved gardening and tending to plants around her home and it was rare that she didn’t have a vase with fresh flowers to enjoy.   Along with gardening, she loved to bake, and she was quite a shopper—enjoying her many hats and purses.   She loved to drive through the Black Hills and spend time with family. She had a very close bond with her sister Marcella Frank and they would visit together often.   And speaking of close attachments, she had a cat named “Beans” that she absolutely adored!

When Melvin’s health began to deteriorate, they moved to Rapid City and lived with their daughter Cathey. After Melvin’s death, Marie’s own health began to fail and she moved back to the reservation to live with her daughter Debbie and her family. In 2010, she was placed in the Golden Living Center in Pierre where she (and Beans) resided up until the time of her death.

Marie is survived by her children; Debbie, Antone and Cathey. Grandchildren; Justin LeBeau, Tate Ducheneaux, Cetan Ducheneaux, Tonweya Ducheneaux, Heather LeBeau, Heidi Howell, Anthony LeBeau, and Antoinette LeBeau, and AnnMarie Ducheneaux. Great grandchildren; Whitney Ducheneaux, Keya Paha Ducheneaux, Hannah Carter, Jaydean Garreau, Timmy, Jessie and Casey Howell, Amiya Selness and…her beloved cat Beans.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin, sister/friend Marcella Frank, sister Cecilia Pribbenow and brother Floyd Demery.

Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Marie’s arrangements.
