Marie Morgan-Engdahl, 71, of Highmore, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.

Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2019 at St. Catherine’s Hall at Big Bend. Burial followed at the Morgan-Engdahl Cemetery, Big Bend. A wake service was held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at St. Catherine’s Hall at Big Bend.

Maire was born on July 23, 1948 in Big Bend (Pocket), South Dakota at the old family homesite. She was the third child of four born to Lyman and Arlene (St. John) Big Eagle. Marie worked all her life. She enjoyed visiting family and friends.

Marie met Douglas Carl Morgan in 1966 and they were married on July 4, 1970, to this union they were blessed with three children: Pamela Cody Youngman, Douglas Morgan and Thomas Morgan and were foster parents for many years. They enjoyed 39 years of marriage until Doug went to heaven on January 19, 2005.

She met Don Engdahl in the summer of 2006, and they were married on February 25, 2009. They enjoyed traveling together and going to softball games. They were always attending family functions until Don became sick and passed away on August 27, 2017.

Marie is survived by her children; numerous nieces and nephews; many precious grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Lyman and Arlene Big Eagle; husbands: Douglas Morgan and Don Engdahl; brothers: Lyman “Brad” Big Eagle and Darrell Lambie; and her beautiful sisters: Phyllis Danielson and Margret Gonzales.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Marie’s arrangements.
