Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 23, 2015 at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor Bill Hoffman officiating.
Marlene Joy Saville was born March 11, 1938 in Jerauld County, South Dakota to Arthur and Cora B. (Klink) Saville. She grew up and lived most of her life in Hand County and graduated from Miller High School in 1956.
On July 31, 1955 she was united in marriage to Roger H. Wangsness in Miller. They made their home in rural Miller where Marlene went to work as a switchboard operator at North Western Bell. She also worked at 1st National Bank until deciding to stay home and care for their son, Larry. When Larry went off to school, Marlene went to work for Wilbur Feed and Seed until she and Roger purchased the Bottle Stop Liquor Store in 1983. Here they enjoyed meeting people and making new friends. They retired in the fall of 2000.
Marlene and Roger enjoyed camping and fishing. They took their grandchildren with them as much as they could. When the great grandchildren came along, Marlene loved spending as much time as she could with them, showing them her love for fishing and gardening. She also spent her time making wind socks and playing a game of pitch!
Marlene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church while living in Miller, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, and the United Church of Faulkton. She also enjoyed belonging to the Jolly Wrens, The Red Hats and the Round Table Coffee Group.
Marlene and Roger moved to Faulkton in 2005 until Rogers passing on January 1, 2006. She then moved to Orient where she remained until the time of her death.
Grateful to have shared in her life was her son, Larry (Skyla) Wangsness of Orient; two grandchildren: Cody (Katie) Wangsness of Clark and Kyle (Amanda) Wangsness of Orient; four great grandchildren: Ely and Cooper Wangsness of Orient and Lilly and Cole Wangsness of Clark; one sister, Norma (Bill) Beaner of Miller; one sister-in-law, Mary Virginia Saville of Texas and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger in 2006; an infant daughter, Ann; three brothers: George, Albert, and Deland Saville; and one sister, Alice Hillie.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Marlene’s arrangements.
