Mary Bernadine Hill, 85, of Wessington, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2018 at home.

Funeral Service was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Wessington with Father Paul Josten, celebrant. Burial followed at the Wessington Cemetery. Visitation began at 6:00 p.m. followed by a 7:00 p.m., prayer service, Thursday, January 25, 2018, all at St. Joseph’s Church, Wessington.

Mary was born October 8, 1932 at home north of Miller, SD to John and Bernadine (Schlechter) Oligmueller. She graduated from high school from Stephan Mission School. Mary was married to Gerald Hanks in 1952 however, as the result of a tragic accident he passed away in 1972. She married Vern Hill in 1977 and she loved her time working side by side with Vern on the farm. In addition to raising four boys, she worked full time in the Wessington School food service, and later the Miller Nursing home.

Mary was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wessington, and an active member of the Legion Auxiliary. Mary thoroughly enjoyed time with her family, and she followed each of her sons sporting events, and later her grandchildren’s. She loved to spend her free time playing Bunco, and cards with her lifelong Wessington friends.

Mary is survived by her four sons: John of Wessington, Don (Linda) of Wessington, Jerry (Shari) of Rapid City, and James (Denise) of Rapid City; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters: Rita Kusser of Highmore, and Lorraine Gilmore of Buckner, MO., one brother, Leonard (Marguerite) Oligmueller of Sioux Falls; and leaves behind numerous loving friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gerald Hanks and Vern Hill; her parents, John and Bernadine Oligmueller; two brothers, Marvin and Roger Oligmueller, and grandson, Nicholas Hanks.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Mary’s arrangements.

  6. God Rest Dear Mary’s soul! I had the blessing of being her Supervisor at the Nursing Home, and we developed a close relationship! She loved her kids and grandkids to the moon! She was so proud of them all, and such a loving wife to Vern. I will always have such love and respect for this lady! She will be very missed! Deb Wilson

  7. So sad, such a special woman. With 4 boys of her own and always a few neighborhood kids around Mary was always patient. John, Don, Jerry, and Jim I was very lucky to have spent so many hours with you and your mom. Take care..
