Mary Jane Wilson, 72, of Huron and formerly of Miller, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Miller with Pastor Mary Ann Sheldon officiating. Burial followed at G.A.R. Cemetery at Miller. Visitation was held a half hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Mary Jane was born July 5, 1939 to Frank R. and Imogene (Holcomb) Gabriel in Faulkton, South Dakota.  She lived and attended school in Rockham and Miller, SD.  She married George Wilson on December 28, 1957.  George and Mary Jane lived in Miller until moving to Huron in 1969.

Her family, and especially her grandchildren, brought her the most joy in life. Mary Jane was always striving to learn more about everything from genealogy to astronomy to her flowers and birds.  While raising her family, she taught Sunday School, was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout Leader and for many years, was a successful Avon Representative. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband, George and 8 children: Dick (Sharon) Wilson of Sioux Falls, Diane (Kurt) Enget of Sioux Falls, David (Gail) Wilson of Scottsdale, AZ, Deb Hart of Huron, Tim (Cheryl) Wilson of Sioux Falls, Rod (Michelle) Wilson of Sioux Falls, Randy Wilson of Sioux Falls, and Georgene (Mike) Becker of Sioux Falls; 26 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Rita Rudloff of Huron, Gloria Clarke of Ottertail, MN and Susan Rasmussen of Kauhauna, WI; sister- in-law, Joann (Richard) Kruger of Groton, SD, numerous nieces and nephews, and her father, Frank Gabriel of Cresbard.

She was preceded in death by her mother Imogene;  step-father, Lloyd Marsh; brother, Gary Gabriel; brothers-in-law: Ed Rudloff, Alan Rasmussen and Roger Clarke.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Mary Jane’s arrangements.

  1. Mom, I miss you…. Thank you for being the most awesome Grandma to my children. The times that had in Huron making mud pies, working in the garden, catching bugs, drawing, running through the sprinklers, making cookies and looking at the moon. And most of all… sitting around the dining room table talking until the middle of the night. I love you-I love you-I love you. Thank you for being my mom 🙂

    When you loose someone you love, it leaves a hole in your heart that will never be filled. Hold on to the memories, remember her voice and know that she is home with our Lord and Savior.
