Mildred Zuber

Mildred N. Zuber, 96, of Gettysburg, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Oahe Manor in Gettysburg.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2011 at Luce Funeral Home in Gettysburg with Pastor Elizabeth Jassmann officiating. Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service.
Mildred Nettie Bruner was born March 9, 1915 in Roswell, SD to Earl and Nettie (Peterson) Bruner. In 1918 at the age of 3 the family moved to Potter County where Mildred attended school and graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1933. She went on to Northern State College in Aberdeen to receive her Bachelor’s Degree.
On July 3, 1938, in Gettysburg, Mildred married Elmer Zuber. For the next 40+ years Mildred taught Jr. High Math and English; eight years in country schools and 32 in Gettysburg. Mildred retired in 1981.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Woman, Order of the Eastern Star, the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. In September 2005 she entered the Oahe Manor.
Mildred is survived by her three nieces: Renee (Bruner) Schlater, Cynthia (Bruner) Brooks, and Vanessa (Bruner) Ivie, all of California; nine great nieces and nephews; 11 great-great nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law: Deloris Tennant of Gettysburg and Gladys Bartels of Lead and a host of extended Zuber Family.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Duane Bruner and one sister, Thelma (Archie) Spicer.




I would like to extend my sympathy to Mildred’s family. I remember teaching in Gettysburg with Mildred in the late 70’s.

Mildred always liked to talk about her students and her teaching days here in Gettysburg. She was a lovely lady and always enjoyed company. She would be busy with her word search books and reading the Aberdeen paper. Sympathy to her family.
