Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Miller with Pastor Bob Ohnstad officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Miller. Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Reck Funeral Home, Miller with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.

Myrle, son of Emil and Jeanette (Palmer) Auch, was born on November 7, 1927 in Lesterville, SD.  As a young child, Myrle and his family moved to a farm near Harrold and later moved to a farm near Highmore.  Myrle attended elementary school in Eagle Township and Highmore High School.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 and was stationed in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey where he was honorably discharged in 1947.

Myrle returned to South Dakota and married Sarah Louise Miller on June 5, 1952 in Onida.  The newlyweds lived on a farm near Highmore for a short time before moving to Miller where he began employment as a lineman at Ree Electric Cooperative and retired in 1983.  Myrle’s love for livestock had humble roots, buying and caring for baby calves in a small pasture on the outskirts of Miller.  As the pasture grew smaller, Myrle and Louise purchased a farm near St. Lawrence, where they shared a life together for 59 years.

During Myrle’s 31 years with Ree Electric, his interest in livestock continued to grow as he raised registered, prize-winning Suffolk sheep.  His passion for animals was vibrant, sharing his experience with young people as a 4-H leader and exhibitor.  Myrle was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion, Hand County Livestock Producers Association, and South Dakota Sheep Producers Association.

In his free time, Myrle enjoyed his daily coffee time with friends and playing cards.  Above all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all those who loved him and shared his life.

Myrle is survived by his wife, Louise of St. Lawrence; children: Janice (Lynn) Bonebright of Redwood Falls, MN; Gale (Mavis) Auch of Miller, Steve Auch of St. Lawrence, Marlin (Terri) Auch of Miller, and Barbara Auch of Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Paul) Nagaoka of Kansas City, MO, Daniel Bonebright of St. Paul, MN, Justin Auch and special friend, Liz Karcz of Reno, NV, Austin Auch of Phoenix, AZ, Dallas (Jordan) Kienow of Miller, Dakota Auch of Miller, and Crystal Killian of Houston, TX; step grandchild, Laura Harper of Houston, TX; four great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Charles (Lorraine) Miller of Onida and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; infant daughter, Judy; sister: Ethel; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

To one of the kindest and most selfless people in the world: You will be greatly missed and we love you so much!
