Nathan Joaquin

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nathan Henry Joaquin, who passed away on July 5, 2026, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 42.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. MDT, Monday, July 13, 2026, at the CRST Bingo Hall Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Burial will follow in the Eagle Butte Cemetery. Wake services will be 6:00 p.m., Sunday, July 12, 2026, with a procession from 4-Mile at 1:00 p.m.

Nathan Henry Joaquin was born on November 8, 1983, in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, to Cecelia “Susie” Dupris and Robert Joaquin.

Nathan was a beloved son, brother, father, family member, and friend. To know Nathan was to know genuine kindness. He had a heart that knew no limits and would give his last dollar-or even the shirt off his back-to help someone in need. His generosity, compassion, and selflessness touched countless lives.

Nathan was a hardworking asphalt worker who took immense pride in providing for the people he loved. No matter how tong the day or how demanding the job, he worked tirelessly to make sure his family had what they needed. Providing for his loved ones wasn’t just something he did-it was who he was. His work ethic, determination, and willingness to sacrifice for his family spoke volumes about the man he was.

He had an incredible sense of humor and a smile that could light up any room. His beautiful eyes, warm laugh, and easygoing spirit made people feel welcome from the moment they met him. He had a way of making others feel seen, valued, and loved.

Above all else, Nathan loved being a dad. Being a father was the greatest joy and most important role of his life. His sons, Antonio Ponce, Nathaniel Joaquin, and Nathan Jr. Joaquin, were the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them-whether it was taking them to the park, playing baseball, teaching them new things, laughing together, or simply being by their side. The love he had for his boys was unconditional.

Nathan also lovingly stepped up and raised his three bonus daughters, Mercedes Uses Knife, Penelope Uses Knife, and Bonita Means, as his own. He never made them feel like anything less than his children, loving, guiding, protecting, and supporting them every step of the way. To him, family wasn’t defined by blood-it was defined by love. Every one of his six children held a special place in his heart, and being their dad was one of his proudest accomplishments.

Nathan is survived by his loving children: Antonio Ponce, Nathaniel Joaquin, Nathan Jr. Joaquin, Mercedes Uses Knife, Penelope Uses Knife, and Bonita Means; his father, Robert Joaquin; his brothers, Nick Joaquin and Nevin Joaquin; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Nathan was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Susie Dupris.

Nathan will be remembered for his kind heart, his generous spirit, his incredible work ethic, his unforgettable smile, and, above all, the immeasurable love he had for his children and family. Although his time here was far too short, the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will continue to live on through everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Nathan was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed every single day, but his legacy of kindness, strength, and unconditional love will never be forgotten.
