James Neil Yost was born December 4, 1939 in Miller, SD to Willard and Ruth (Arbogast) Yost. He was born into a family of 7 brothers and sisters. Neil grew up in South Hand County and attended school in Mondamin Township at the Johnson and Heezen schools. He graduated from Miller High School in 1957. Neil served in the National Guard for several years and earned several awards for marksmanship. Neil helped build the Big Bend and Platte bridges as an underwater welder.

Neil married Sharon Peterson on October 17, 1960. They farmed and ranched in South Hand County for 20 years. They raised two children, a son David and daughter Deanne. In 1985 the couple moved to town (Miller) where Neil worked as a carpenter. Neil?s talented wood working can be seen throughout town and with his family.

From the time he was small he was given the nickname ?Blow? and that is what his classmates knew him as. Neil was a character with a zest for life that was shared and enjoyed by all who knew him. He was a true friend and was always there when you needed him. Some of our fondest memories involve an elephant and his blue jeans hanging on the girdle shop?enough said.

Neil met the love of his life-a cute little bomb shell who came to town to be a hair dresser. It was history from the first moments. They of course married and ended up on the farm doing what Neil loved to do. He always said ?I may not get rich but it?s the greatest job a man could find?.

Neil enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, watching Jimmy D race and being with his kids and grandkids and numerous family and friends. Sharon passed away December 2, 2010 and Neil said that life just wasn?t as much fun without her.

Neil is remembered as the coolest grandfather, the greatest dad, a special brother and the best uncle anyone could ever have.

Neil is survived by his son David (Joyce) Yost of Huron; daughter Deanne (Alan) Steinke of Colome; five grandchildren, Gerry and Eric Shaw, Clint and Jesse (Angela) Hall and Shane Yost; one sister Dee (Larry) Danburg of Miller; one brother Jerry (Sharon) Yost of Connecticut; sister-in-law Lois Yost of Iowa; many very special nieces and nephews and beloved in-laws.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister Cleone Anderson, brothers, Keith, Gene and Lyle Yost.
