Noan Idona Schooler, 82, of Gettysburg, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck, ND.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Don Watt officiating. Burial followed at the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Noan was born July 19, 1927 in Clearfield, SD to John Richard Nelson and Lula Myrtle Nesteby Nelson. She attended eight years of grade school at Clearfield School and graduated from Winner High School in 1945. She worked as a secretary at the Farmers State Bank for ten years and at the Agriculture Service Center office in Winner, SD where she met and married John Norris Schooler on December 18, 1954. Shortly after, they moved to Gettysburg, SD where they settled and made their home for over 50 years. There she worked at the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service for 27 years and was an honorary life member.

Noan was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star, and past Bethel Guardian of Jobs Daughters. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Honor Guard, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, High Plains Arts Council and the Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Gettysburg Country Club where she was active in organizing couples and ladies golf leagues, tournaments and served on numerous committees.

Noan’s hobbies included playing cards, golfing, dancing, baking and bowling. She was very interested in the activities of her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.

She is survived by two children, Glenda (Bruce) Reemts of Mandan, ND and Greg of Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan) Gartner, Kyle Reemts, and Brittany Reemts and fiancé Asello Layawen; two great-grandchildren Emmy Gartner and Camden Reemts-Layawen. She is also survived by a sister, Ruth Storms, a brother Richard (Maxie) Nelson and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Schooler of 55 years, her parents, a half sister, Myrtle Wood, a half brother, Walter Nelson, a sister, Viola Docken, and a brother, Duane Nelson.

She will be remembered as a loving and kind mother, grandmother and friend.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Noan's arrangements.
