Ollie Ellen Martschinske, 90, of Faulkton, passed away Friday, February 11, 2011 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor Paul Smith officiating. Burial followed at the Faulkton Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2011 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton.

On August 28, 1920 Ollie was born to Charlie and Edith (Horning) Connell.  She grew up in Cresbard, South Dakota and was an admitted tom-boy.  Upon graduating from Cresbard High School, she attended Northern State College and Aberdeen Business School.  As a young woman, she took the train to Washington, DC where she worked for the United States government.

She met and married Charles Fetters in which two children were born, Marilyn and Donna.  Ollie returned to Cresbard and met and married Edward Martschinske in which she had five children and farmed in the Faulkton area with her husband.

Ollie grew up with six brothers and sisters, Harland “Sonny” (Marilyn) Connell, Virgil “Bobo” (Doris) Connell, Virginia Connell, Peggy Connell, Vernon “Toad” (Darlys) Connell and Verna (Ray) Simon.

 

Bowling, golfing and most of all card playing were some of Ollie’s favorite pass times.  She also loved her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Grateful to have shared in her life are her children: Donna Powers of Brookings, SD, Susan (Lynn) Laubach of Vida, MT, Gloria (David) Barber of Westminster, CO, Donald Martschinske of Homestead, FL, Gary (Claire) Martschinske of Camas, WA and Judy Kellar of Watertown, SD; 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Proceeding her in death was her daughter, Marilyn in 1944; husband Edward in 1991; brothers: Harland, Virgil and Vernon; brother-in-law, Ray Simon; and several brothers and sisters in infancy.


In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the United Church of Faulkton.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Ollie’s arrangements.
