Owen Zachritz, 88, of Aberdeen and formerly of Faulkton, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.
Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton with Pastor Bill Hoffman officiating. Burial with military rites followed in the Faulkton Cemetery. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the funeral home.
Owen Roberts Zachritz was born September 11, 1925 to Dr. George F. and Clara (Roberts) Zachritz in Faulkton, SD. He graduated from Faulkton High School. After high school, he served his country as a Sargent in the Army Air Force and was honorable discharged on November 4, 1945. Owen worked in Seattle, Washington for many years as a bookkeeper which gave him opportunities to spend summers in Alaska. He also lived and worked in Mt. Vernon, Washington.
Owen loved to travel, especially taking cruises. He enjoyed doing jig-saw puzzles, being outdoors, playing bridge, and music. He was a community minded individual; serving as a commander of the local VFW and American Legion, Grand Master of the Faulkton Masonic Lodge and was a member of the United Church of Faulkton. Owen loved being around children; and enjoyed watching birds and dogs. He will be remembered for having a good sense of humor and living life to the fullest.
He is survived by his sister, Doris Wescott; brother, George Zachritz; son, Jeff Zachritz; three nieces: Gloria (David) Miller, Georgia (Gene) McCullough, and Ginger (Greg) Davidson; several cousins; and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
