Patricia Russell, 70, of Eagle Butte, died Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. MDT, Thursday, August 13, 2009 at the Old Agency Building, Eagle Butte. An all night wake service was held at 7:00 p.m. MDT, Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Old Agency Building.
Patricia Ann Shegonee was born October 6, 1938 at Wisconsin Rapids, WI to William and Lena (White Pine) Shegonee. She was raised in Wisconsin, attended school in Wisconsin Rapids graduating from Lincoln High School. Upon completion of her schooling, Patty moved to Santa Fe, NM and worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company for 18 years. She was then employed by US Qwest Telephone Authority until her retirement in 1998. Following her retirement, at the request of one of their sons, Ronald Eagle Chasing, they moved to Cheyenne River Lakota Reservation.
Patricia and Roger Russell were married October 9, 1970. Patty and Roger adopted 14 children, as they had no children of their own.
Patty is survived by her husband: Roger of Eagle Butte; children: Pat and Ron Eagle Chasing of Eagle Butte, Kay and Jerry Palmer of Buffalo, WY, Jo Ellen and Jake Thompson of Gillette, WY, Angel and David Kennedy of Faith, James and Charmaine Lightfield of Faith, Zunika and Kunu Cook of Kamloops, BC, Maurice and Ramona Antell Family, Jared and Rhonda Uses Many Family, Ronica Eagle Chasing and Stewart Bruner, RJ, Camrahn and Shayla Eagle Chasing, Edie Jewett and Elenor Miner; sister: Arlene (Dale) Shegonee-Elwort of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; brother: Leland (Ethel) Shegonee of Tulsa, OK and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lena Shegonee, and siblings: Ellsworth “Ozzie”, Bill, Oliver, Sam, Naomi, Lillian Marilyn and Celeste.
Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Patricia's arrangements.

I have not seen Patti in well over 20 years, but my memories of her are very clear. I will never forget my visit with her and Roger in NM. I became very sick and ended up staying in the hospital while visiting. Patti showed up in her clown outfit and put a smile on my face! This is just one of many fond memories and even though much time has passed she will be missed dearly.
