Patsy Jean Pool was born on November 29, 1929 in Blunt to Hal and Gladys (Peterson) Mercer. She was her dad’s tomboy and loved to hunt and fish with him and her uncles in her early years. She never outgrew her love for the outdoors, and continued hunting and fishing with her husband, Wayne. She lived in several places growing up and attended school in Blunt, Custer, and San Pedro, CA before returning to Blunt to graduate with the Class of 1947. In 1950, she married Wayne Pool in Pierre. To this union two children, Randy and Tammy, were born. They have lived in Blunt for all of their 63 years together.
Pat loved her pets, especially her dachshunds. She was an avid fan of radio talk programs in her early years and eventually TV and computers. She loved electronics and gadgets and could fix almost anything and her grandchildren were always eager to see her latest gadget. Pat loved sports, she played basketball in high school and followed local and professional sports all of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne, of Blunt; son, Randy (Colleen) of Blunt; daughter, Tammy Cole (David) of Presho; grandchildren: Jeffrey Pool (Molly), Shelbi Pool, Dustin Cole (fiancée Stephanie) and Mandy Cole; sisters: Peggy Smith and Polly Kuykendall (Ken); sister-in-law, Lois Pool; aunt, Fran Welch; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was one of a kind and the family would ask that you plan to join us in the Spring with your favorite Pat story. Cards may be sent to Wayne Pool, Box 101, Blunt SD 57522.
Memorials will be forwarded to the Blunt American Legion Auxiliary.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Pat’s arrangements.

We will miss you! Your sharp wit, love of family, and strong will are but a few of the things that made you such an invaluable part of the family. My love and thoughts are with the family now.
Here is an example of Pat’s sense of humor: 40 yrs ago when Mike & I were married, she gave us this recipe:
“Recipe for “Old Pheasant”
1 old cock pheasant, 1 large pan to boil bird in, 1 good sized rock, salt, pepper& vegetables and water.
Put rock in bottom of pan, add the cock, salt & pepper and enough water to cover. Bring to boil. Let cook 2 hrs. Add vegs, cook till tender. Drain off juice, remove vegs, and cock. Throw away the cock & eat the rock. It will still be more tender than the old rooster!
So glad we were able to see you last year Pat. Also…thanks for introducing us to the slot machines(I think!)
