She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a life-long follower of the Christian faith.

She grew up in Van Order Township where she attended country school for eight years and then graduated from Highmore High School in 1938. After graduation, Pearl worked in the school library until she was united in marriage to Fred Dittman on April 10th, 1941 at her folk's home; which was also her parent’s 29th wedding anniversary.

Fred and Pearl moved to Peno Township, Hyde County, to start farming. But in 1942, Fred’s dad passed away, so they moved back to Bramhall Township in Hyde County on the home place.

Pearl volunteered her time serving at the Highmore Healthcare Center for 25 years, as a 4-H Leader for 20 years, delivering meals on wheels in her community, and in various capacities as a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

She served on her Township Board, and the Senior Citizen Center Board as Secretary, and was also a member of: Bridge Club, Extension Club, and Bible Study Club. Pearl enjoyed many crafts including: ceramics, beading, plastic canvas, and macramé, among others.

Pearl enjoyed being a mother and a grandmother, and she talked many times of the special times spent with her granddaughters and helping them.

Survivors include two sons: Jerry (Sherri) Dittman, and James (Shirley) Dittman all of Highmore, South Dakota; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Ellen Bawdon also of Highmore.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Justin; one sister, Alma; three brothers: Herbert, John and Harold; and two sisters-in-law: Pat Bawdon and Maxine Bawdon.
