Peter Ochsner was born November 11, 1922 to Emanuel and Dorothea Ochsner on their homestead about 10 miles northeast of Herreid, SD. After graduation from Herreid High School, Peter attended a Commercial College in Bismarck, ND. After his education, in 1942 he helped his father and brothers on the family farm near Herreid. Peter married Renata Reimer from Artas, SD in 1945. The couple moved to a farm south of Cresbard, SD and east of Faulkton, SD where they raised a family and continued farming until Peter retired in 1984. While on the farm, Peter took great pride working the land and fattening his cattle until he could “play marbles on their backs”. In 1993 they moved to Faulkton where they lived for 14 years. Peter remained active on county agricultural boards, church council and county committees until health issues required Peter and Renata to move to Aberdeen in 2007.
Grateful for having shared Peter’s life are his wife, Renata; children David (Gloria) Ochsner of Brandon, SD, Roger (Maureen) Ochsner of Minneapolis, MN, Jerald (Betty) Ochsner of Aberdeen, SD, Sandra (Gary) Weismantel of Herreid, SD; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Lenora Schultz of Phoenix, AZ and Gladys Giedd of Escondido, CA, and one brother, Vern (Ethel) Ochsner of Herreid, SD. Peter is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Ruben, Oscar, Marcus and Carl, and two sisters: Martha Berreth and Esther Mehlhaff.
Memorials may be forwarded to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ipswich, SD or to the Bethesda Nursing Home in Aberdeen, SD.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Peter’s arrangements.
