Raymond Edwin Grau, age 80, of Faulkton passed away, Friday, February 8, 2008 at the Golden Living Center in Redfield, SD.
Funeral services were held at 10:30a.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the United Church of Faulkton with Rev. Mike Ward officiating. Burial was in the Faulkton Cemetery. Visitations was held from 1:00-7:00p.m., Tuesday at the Luce Funeral Home in Faulkton with a family present from 5:00-7:00p.m.
Pallbearers were Raymond’s five sons-in-law: Marvin Schmidt, Ronald Myers, Herman Schraeder, Jim Brock and Greg Anglin. Honorary pallbearers were his two daughters-in-law: Marilyn and Tanya Grau, his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandson.
Raymond Edwin Grau was born at Miranda, South Dakota to Albert & Gladys (Bent) Grau on October 17, 1927. He attended rural grade school near Miranda and Faulkton High School.
On May 27, 1947 Raymond married Rose Marie Steiner in Faulkton. They made their home at Cresbard until 1949, when they moved to Faulkton. There Ray worked for C.W. Wilhelm Construction and for 26 years at the South Dakota State Highway Department.
Raymond loved to garden, often sharing his bountiful harvest with others. He also loved his faithful dog, Packer, to golf and to follow his grandchildren’s activities.
He was a member of the United Church of Faulkton, Lakeside Country Club and a past member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Left to cherish his life are his two sons: Lonnie (Marilyn) of Oregon, WI and Albert (Tanya) of Aberdeen; six daughters: Judy (Marvin) Schmidt of Tolstoy, Sharon Peavler of Ronan, MT, Linda (Ronald) Myers of Mobridge, Kyra (Herman) Schraeder of Faulkton, Jean (Jim) Brock of Huron and Jeanette (Greg) Anglin of Aberdeen; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; two sisters: Betty (Royce) Simon of Lebanon and Beth Fischer of Aberdeen; four brothers: Bernard of Stillwater, OK, Larry (Beverley) of Broomfield, CO, Lyle (Patti) and Allan (Sharon) both of Roscoe; one sister-in-law: Noni Grau of Stillwater, OK; one brother-in-law: Don Sexton of Deadwood and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rose Marie on February 6, 1992; and infant daughter, three brothers: Erwin, Wayne and an infant; three sisters: Myrtle, Mavis and Millie; one grandson; one great granddaughter and one son-in-law: Duane Peavler.

We are so sorry to hear of the loss of Uncle Raymond. I will cherish the memories that I had growing up in South Dakota and always getting together in Faulkton. Those were the good days. Love, Randy

Sorry to hear about Ray. My sympathy goes to your whole family.
I always enjoyed Ray when he came into Cenex. We had good visits. Missed him when he wasn’t able to come in anymore.
