Raymond Goebel was born February 19, 1915 on the family farm near Hoven, SD to Matt and Mary (Tiegen) Goebel. He attended school at Hoven Catholic until the seventh grade and then went to work on the family farm.
He met Helen Atkins at a dance in Gettysburg and they were married on February 20, 1939. They lived on the Goebel farm north of Hoven for two years, then moved north of Gettysburg for a couple years more. In 1945 they moved southeast of Gettysburg. In 1948 they bought the farm they currently live on.
Ray’s life revolved around the farm. He loved working the cattle and horses and seeing the many changes in farm machinery. His farming career began with horses and ended with auto steer tractors.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Ray. He was a great guy and will be missed by many. May the many happy memories help you all through this difficult time. I will be keeping all the Goebels in my thoughts and prayers.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of sorrow.
Many of my best childhood memories are of the times I spent with my Dad out on your farm shooting gophers and eating corn on the cob! Those memories seem like they were just yesterday, and they will last forever.
To all the Goebels,
I am thinking about you, caring about you and loving you from many miles away. May our prayers ease your hurting. With my heartfelt and deepest sympathy, and a prayer that God will be especially close to you all at this time. May Ray rest in the arms of angels.

Just watched the video. How fortunate they were to have so
many years together.
My sympathy to the entire Goebel
Family.
Sincerely, Marcelline Hunnel
My families sympathy is with you at this time. I am Earl and Catherine(Miles) Millar youngest daughter. May God be with you.
I just watch the video tribute to Ray. I saw so much love and ahppiness in all the pictures. What a legacy you both built together and what you will leave. Wishing you all of God’s comfort and all His blessings.
Our deepest sympathy for your entire family. From the looks of the tribute video you all have some great memories of your time with Ray.

Wow! I watched the video tribute and saw a precious family that Ray was very proud of! My favorites were Ray with the Border Collie in the UTV, Ray & Helen on their John Deere riding mowers, and the baldie cow with her twin babies! I’m the daughter of Kenneth Johnson, the oldest of the Johnson Bros. of Trail City where Ray purchased Angus bulls starting many, many years ago. Dad went to your place once probably 30 odd years ago and came home with a few track fillers that the Goebel boys had made for filling in the huge ruts left by our center pivot. Dad knew he had solved a big problem here and was really grateful for having found those!! My brother Stuart has told of being at your farm while delivering bulls and getting in on the coffee break! He thought that was a big kick too. We can all tell by the family picture with the rabbit ears what a fun-loving bunch you are!! Our condolences to all your family in the loss of your patriarch who was a very dear man to you and many others. May your memories give you comfort in such a difficult time. God’s blessings to you.
Our condolences to the Goebel family prayers be with all of you.

What a beautiful tribute to Ray as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. I was very moved by this loving salute to a man. It showed on his face. He always had a smile. He was hard working, simple, kind, and with integrity. Actually, your family is very blessed. What a great role model, and he was human. I felt like I was with you or wished I was with you. I loved the photos of him with the grandchildren. Very dear. Plus all of the beautiful pictures of the other grandchildren. Thank you. He was love and loved. With love, Dianne Goebel
To the Goebel family,
Thinking of you at this sad time. My deepest sympathy to all of you.
