Regina Wherry

Regina Wherry, 88, of Faulkton, passed away, Friday, January 2, 2009 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Faulkton with Father Joji Itukulapati officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Luce Funeral Home in Faulkton with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church.
Regina Pauline Wherry was born July 6, 1920 at Hoven, South Dakota, the oldest of three children to Charles & Tena (Koehn) Speck. She attended school in the Faulkton area.
On November 23, 1943 she married Celius Wherry in Faulkton. Regina was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Post #3179 and also St. Thomas Catholic Church Altar Society. She was employed at the John P. Shirk home for nearly 27 years. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with family, cooking and traveling.
Regina is survived by her husband, Celius of Faulkton; two sons: Richard (Phyllis) Wherry of Milbank and Donald (Sandy) Wherry of Sun City, AZ; one daughter: Diane Wherry (Brad) Becker of Aberdeen; one sister: Deloras Johnson of Carol Stream, Ill.; one brother: Marvin Speck of Faulkton; nine grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant son.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are directed to the Faulkton Healthcare Center, 1401 Pearl St., Faulkton, SD 57438.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Regina’s arrangements.

I will always remember working at the nursing home when Regina was a cook there and the delicious long johns that she would make!
Our sympathy goes out to the Wherry family. Regina will be missed by friends and staff at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.
