Reiny Dutt
March 30, 1925 ~ June 14, 2020
Reinholdt “Reiny” Dutt, 95, of Gettysburg, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020 at the Avera Gettysburg Hospital.
Funeral services was held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2020, at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg, with Pastor Jeff Adel presiding. Visitation began one-hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors followed at the Gettysburg Cemetery.
Reinholdt Robert Dutt was born March 30, 1925 near Tolstoy, SD to Jacob and Christina (Holzwarth) Dutt Jr. He attended Tolstoy Area Country Schools and graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1943 where he proudly wore #44 while playing football.
On September 30, 1944, Reiny was inducted into the United States Army, serving during WWII. He was part of the Pacific Theater, serving in the Pacific for some time. His honorable discharge was obtained on November 18, 1946. Reiny was always proud of his military service. He displayed it proudly by being part of the VFW and American Legion. He was also very involved in the planning, fund raising and building of the local veteran’s monuments.
On September 3, 1950 Reiny was united in marriage to Norma Stoner. They married at the United Methodist Church in Gettysburg. Gettysburg became their home for their entire married life where they raised their three girls. Reiny worked hard to provide for his family. At first, he worked for the United States Postal Service while trying to get his farm up and running. Along with his farming, Reiny helped build many homes and businesses in the Gettysburg Community. He was also very involved in the building of furniture that can be found in many homes in the area.
Reiny will always be remembered as a community man and above all a family man. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, helping in the original remodeling. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Yelduz Shrine. Reiny was instrumental in obtaining the little Shrine corvettes that traveled to many area parades and gatherings. He could also be found helping with the Shrine circus when they were in the area. However, family was of utmost importance. He did all he could to provide for his children and grandchildren. He encouraged them to try things that he did not have the opportunity to and helped them succeed in all of their endeavors. He was so proud of each one of them and looked forward to their time together. He also became “Grandpa Dutt” or “Papa Dutt” to all of his daughter Lynette’s daycare kids. He was always there to offer a smile, a snack, and a quick trick to make them laugh.
Those privileged to call him family are his daughters: Kathie Westphal and Lynette Dutt, both of Gettysburg; grandchildren: Justin (Casey) Wenzlaff, Jesse (Pam) Wenzlaff all of Humboldt, Amanda (Cody) Hoffman, Colton, Shaun (Emily) Westphal, St. Louis Park, MN, Paige (Barry) Wood, Warner and Avery Dutt, Gettysburg; great grandchildren: Owen and Abel Wenzlaff, Bo, Jessa and Trey Hoffman, Audrey Westphal, and Elodie and Palmer Wood; brother, Herb (Marilyn) Dutt of Willmar, MN; sisters-in-law: Doris Larson of Gettysburg and Dottie Stoner of Summerset, SD; and a host of nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma on December 22, 1994; daughter, Bonnie Wenzlaff; brothers: Gottlieb and Milton Dutt; and sister, Eileen Torbert.
Memorial may be directed to the Shriners Healthcare for Children – Twin Cities, 2025 East River Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55414.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Reiny’s arrangements.

Lynette, Kathy and the rest of Reiny's family,
I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was such a great guy and will always have a special place in my heart. Remy still remembers him as the magic guy from the Legion (who else can make a quarter appear out of your ear!) I hope you can find comfort and peace in all the wonderful memories your family has. There are little pieces of Reiny all over the place in his beautifully, hand crafted wood work. Hugs and prayers to you all!
Amy
My sincere condolences and prayers.
Oh my…I was just checking the guestbook for my cousin Patty Stoner and leaving condolences and found Reiny had also just passed away. Rhoda and I send our condolences to Kathy and Lynette who I grew up with and the rest of their family who I have never met. Our families go way back…but all too soon will be forgotten. However, as long as I am alive, Reiny will be remembered.
So sorry for the loss of your dad. Please know he has fought the fight, finished the race, kept the faith and finally will receive the crown of righteousness.

Kathy and family sorry for your loss
The world has lost a good man.
My deepest sympathy to the entire family. He was such a wonderful person. You instantly felt like he was your friend or you had known him all along. His humor, kind heartedness, caring manor… The way my grandchildren loved him was such a treat to see and feelings were mutual. I am very grateful to have known him.
