Richard Jewett, 53, of Ft. Yates, ND and formerly of Eagle Butte, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Sanford Health, Bismarck, ND.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. MDT, Saturday, March 25, 2017 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte, with Mother Margaret Watson presiding. Burial followed in Emmanuel Episcopal Cemetery, White Horse.
An all-night wake began 7:00 p.m. CDT, Thursday, March 23, 2017 at A.J. Agard Gym, Ft. Yates, ND. There was a procession from the South Dakota boarder north of Kennel at 4:00 p.m.
A second all-night wake began at 7:00 p.m. MDT, Friday, March 24, 2017 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. There was a procession from the 4-mile junction east of Eagle Butte at 4:00 p.m.
Richard H. Jewett was born June 13, 1963 at Eagle Butte, SD to Lyle and Eunice (Hairy Chin) Jewett. He grew up in the Crow Creek area where he received his education.
Following school, Richard lived with his siblings; they were always together and thought it would always be that way. Richard enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was so good to them!
Those left to cherish Richard’s life are his children: Tera Jewett and Lionel R. Jewett, both of Fort Yates, ND; grandchildren: Diamond White, Cheyenne Jewett, Jceon Kuntz, Wichahpi Tho Jewett and all of his nieces, nephews and their children; his siblings: Marvella Jewett, Kenneth Jewett Jr., Gwen Jewett, Lionel J. Jewett and Theresa McCann; and one half brother, Kermit Swan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents: Manuel and Ella Jewett; maternal grandparents: Raymond and Lucille Hairy Chin; brother, Brian Jewett; and a nephew, Delano Jewett.
Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Richard’s arrangements.

I’m sorry to hear of Richards Passing! I remember I ran into him outside of St. Alexis Hospital in Bismarck, ND. we had a conversation about our childhood and how we had to sit in the car while our parents or parent was inside drinking., bringing us pop, chips, candy every now and than. it was a "connection from how we grew up. We are close in age. Its sad to hear of our native people passing away. May you RIP Richard. I know I will see you again!

Richard worked for me for several years. He was a good employee and I had a lot of respect for him..My condolances to his family.I’m sure he will. Be missed.
