Richard LaFortune, 66, of Highmore, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at his residence.
Mass of Christian was held at 10:30a.m., Friday, July 6, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Highmore with Father Nereparmpil officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Highmore, directed by Luze Funeral Home of Highmore. Visitation began at 6:00p.m., Thursday, July 5 with a 7:00p.m. prayer service at the church.
Richard was born to Catherine (Lee) and William LaFortune in Highmore on February 28, 1941. He grew up on a farm southeast of Holabird. He attended elementary school in Holabird and later graduated from Highmore High School in 1959.
He worked for several years in the Northwestern Pacific. When returning to South Dakota, he married Mary Schwartz.
He was baptized in the Catholic faith and enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending rodeos, driving around looking at farm land and he loved to do roofing.
Richard’s memory will be cherished by his mother Catherine of Mitchell; sisters: Carolyn (Gerald) Morrison of South Carolina, Sylvia (James) Bies of Huron, Jesse (Donald) Hagemeyer of Sioux Falls and brother: Terry of South Carolina; special friend: Mary Genzler; son: Mark (LaNett) Genzler; four grandchildren all of Highmore; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father William and wife Mary.
