Robert Holmes was born December 30, 1964 in Faulkton to Gerald Holmes. He attended school in Faulkton and graduated high school in 1983.
Upon graduation, Bob worked for area carpenters and also traveled for heavy duty construction companies, including Tim Hanson out of Sturgis. In the early 1990’s Bob started his own business, Holmes Construction. Along with his business he helped his father around the farm. In 1994 Travis Holdren at the age of 14, came to work alongside Bob doing carpentry. It was Bob that always encouraged Travis to go to college and have his own business, which he did, earning a degree in building trades and starting his own company. Travis was with him until 2004.
Along with carpentry, Bob was involved with custom combining. He started out working with harvest crews until the late 1990’s when he bought his own combine and did custom work around the area and for his father. When Gerald got sick, Bob stopped carpentry and went to help out at the farm full time. He continued doing custom combining, but also started doing custom planting as well. Rocky Speck joined him in the early 2000’s and continued helping until the time of Bob’s passing.
Bob loved spending time outdoors; if it was hunting, fishing or riding motorcycle. He was especially proud to have been able to teach both Travis and Rocky how to spear a fish in the river. Bob also spent time serving as a county commissioner for Faulk County.
Bob’s life will be cherished by his stepmother, Sharon Holmes of Faulkton; “adopted” sons: Travis Holdren and Rocky (Kaylee) Speck both of Faulkton; special friends: Adam (Juli) Vaupell of Parkville, MO and Vanessa Hogg of Faulkton; “adopted” grandchildren: Tucker and Lincoln Vaupell of Parkville, MO and many friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his grandparents and father.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Bob’s arrangements.

It was a privelege to be your friend and help you through your journey. Rest in piece in eternal paradise Bob!
Thanks Bobby for your generosity, extending the invitation to come hunt your place…and you never believing for a second that we’d travel that far to hunt a bird! What a great bunch of memories we made together, from the first year to last year, getting to see you sincerely happy! Being there was always a highlight of our year, from the time we passed your farm heading west, till we saw it again heading east into Faulkton. We’re so glad that we made that trip and made such an awesome friend along the way.
Happy Trails Bob, until we meet again.
What a joy it was for us to have Bobbie im our lives even though it was s short time, Our memories will last forever our great pheasant hunts, prime rib dinners and just learning so much about his love for farming. Going back to our high school days, I’ll always remember going 60 (maybe faster?) in your mustang, on 212, pulling the emergency brake up and going around in circles. Every time I look at my emergency brake, I think of those days! You’ll always be remembered!! Wishing you a swift journey to the our side! You’ll be missed by many!

My sincere condolences to the family of Robert Holmes. May you find comfort in your loving memories, and in God’s promise to soon "swallow up death forever" and "wipe away the tears from all faces." (Isaiah 25;8) With deepest sympathy,
I watched you grow up, you were so special to Grandpa and Grandma worried about you riding the mini-cycles in the ditch! I still have the Christmas ornaments you made out of beads as a kid!
I am so sorry that such a wonderful person has passed away. I haven’t signed the guest book until now, because I couldn’t find the words to express my sadness at his passing. I still can’t. My thought and prayers are with everyone who loved and cared about Bobby.
