Robert Bowar, 87, of Faulkton, passed away, Friday, September 7, 2012 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.
 

Mass of Christian Burial were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Faulkton with Fr. Joji Itukulapati officiating. Burial followed in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, Faulkton with full military honors. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 10, 2012 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior.

Bob was born May 7, 1925 in Faulkton, South Dakota to Michael and Loretta Bowar. He attended Tamworth Grade school and Faulkton High School. He served in WWII in the Philippines.

He married Julie Schaefer at St. Liborius Catholic Church in Polo, South Dakota on October 12, 1948. He farmed in the LaFoon Township until his retirement to Faulkton in 1991. His two sons continued farming which allowed Bob to continue operating the combine until recent years. He was an active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW and Lakeside Country Club. He also served on the board of Miranda Elevators, Faulk County School and Faulkton Bank.

Bob and Julie traveled throughout the United States in their motor home. In addition to traveling, Bob’s hobbies included flying, fishing, golf, shuffle board, attending grandchildren’s activities and spending time with family and friends. He loved the daily coffee group. In 1996, they bought a home in Apache Junction, AZ where they enjoyed spending their winters.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Julie of Faulkton, Larry (Cheryl) Bowar, Faulkton; Pam (Terry) Brueggeman, Marshalltown, IA; Jeanette (Rick) Shamis, Sugar Grove, IL; Nancy (Dave) Waldowski, Alta Loma, CA and Gary (Nickie) Bowar, Faulkton; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grand children.

Bob will be remembered for the kindness he showed to all those he encountered. He will be greatly missed.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Robert’s arrangements.

  8. Bob was truly one of the kindest men I’ve known and it’s evident that he passed that trait along to his children. I so vividly remember him at the Miranda elevator joking around. He was quite the tease. And such of good friend to our dad.
