Robert Oliver Redwater, 30, of Ft. Thompson, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2:00p.m., Saturday, January 5, at Big Bend Gym at Big Bend. There was an all night wakes both Thursday and Friday evenings at the Big Bend Gym with services each night at 7:00p.m. Burial was in St. Catherine’s Cemetery under the direction of Luze Funeral Home of Highmore.
Robert “Bob” Oliver Redwater was born July 29, 1977 at St. Paul, MN to Orville Mestes and Leanne Eagleman. From birth until he reached the age of 17, Dominic Redwater Sr. gave Robert his last name as he raised Bob as his own son.
Robert grew up on the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation. He attended Crow Creek High School where he played football and sang with the Crow Creek Drum Group. Bob was a traditional dancer, enjoying life to the fullest. He loved to play basketball and participate in Native American Ceremonies. He was in the talented and gifted program and was proud of keeping himself physically fit
He is survived by his wife: Tina of Lawrence, KS; his children: Tredgan and Martina Mestes, Morgan Big Eagle, Evan and Sheena Sanchez, Done’ Grant Redwater, Rylan Ducheneaux, Marquel Thompson and Seanda Sazue; his parents: Orville Mestes of Eagle Butte, Leanne Eagleman of Chamberlain and Dominic Redwater Sr. of Big Bend; siblings: Donise Redwater of Pierre, Michelle Redwater of Rapid City, Shannan Gomez of Indianapolis, IN, LaCosta Miner of Rapid City, Dominic Redwater Jr. of Fountain Valley, CA, Cheryl Mestes of Pierre, Cathy Mestes of Pierre, Frank Mestes of Flandreau, Orville F. Mestes of Eagle Butte and Jamie Mestes of Eagle Butte and maternal grandmother: Gretchen Eagleman.
Bob was preceded in death by his son: Jeremy Mestes; maternal grandfather: Oliver Eagleman Sr.; paternal grandparents: Carrie Fisherman and Frank Mestes and his mother and father in law: Margaret and Raymond Gonzales.
Casketbearers will be Jeremy Sazue, Brent Sazue, John Jones Jr., Rudy Gonzales, Eddy Gonzales and Gerald Zephier.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Melby Kirkie, Darrell Zephier, Tony Gonzales, Dennis Ross, Jim Fallis, Raymond Gonzales Jr., Joe Gonzales, Bryant Ross, Quincey Jones, Babe Stepp and Tyrone Stepp.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with arrangements.
