Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Gettysburg, SD with Pastor Don Watt officiating. Burial followed in the Gettysburg Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation was held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Luce Funeral Home in Gettysburg.
Robert William Machan was born November 21, 1928 to Kurt and Olive (Josephson) Machan on the family farm near Gettysburg where he spent most of his life. He was a bachelor farmer and enjoyed working the soil and planting the crops.
Bob was a graduate of the Gettysburg High School and a veteran of the Korean War. He was an avid reader, enjoyed country and blue grass music, loved to fish, work on electronics, keep busy in the yard and attend family gatherings.
He is survived by his sister Edna Machan of Gettysburg and his brother Joseph Machan of Pierre.
Preceding him in death are his parents and a sister Celia.
Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Robert’s arrangements.
