Rose Marie was born October 2, 1921 in Orient, South Dakota to Gerhard and Josephine (Hemetsberger) Martinmaas. Rose attended grade school at St. Liborius in Polo and graduated from Fairview High School in Polo. She began her teaching career after one year of college at The Notre Dame Academy in Mitchell, SD. She taught in the rural area school, all the while attending night class workshops and summer school, graduating from Huron College in 1972 with her B.A. degree in education. She taught all grades for 14 years in rural schools and 23 years in the Miller School System, first teaching 5th grade and then 4th grade until her retirement in 1987. During those 37 years as a teacher, she touched the lives of 500 students and felt they touched her life even more. She left them with these words of wisdom, “Yesterday is Experience; Tomorrow is Hope; and Today is getting from one to the other as best I can.”

While teaching in the rural schools, she met and married Raymond Danburg on June 20, 1944. Rose and Ray were the parents of five children: Jerry, Larry, Marilyn, Dan, and Roxanne. Rose was very active following her children’s activities; she was an avid bowler; sang with the Drifters and Dreamers; enjoyed playing bingo; gardening, playing horseshoes and of course watching sports. Rose was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and attending Mass was a very important part of her life.

Rose joined the angelic choir in Heaven on February 25, 2015 after a brief illness.

Blessed to have shared in her life are her three sons: Jerry (Barb) of Pueblo West, CO, Larry (Dee) of Miller, Dan (Kelli) of Aberdeen; 26 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Forrest) Dalton of Pierre; three sister-in-laws, Lenore Ufen, Deloris (LeRoy) Danburg, and Derla (David) Simons, all of Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; two daughters: Roxanne and Marilyn; three brothers: Tony Martinmaas, Joseph Danter, and Herman Martinmaas; four sisters: Francis Schlichte, Mary Pawlovich, Josephine Pawlovich, and Ann Treinen; and a granddaughter, Kelly (Danburg) Hess.

Rose was blessed with the love of her family and her good health for 93 years, she was always ready for an adventure whether it was going somewhere, being with her friends, playing a game of cards, or watching a sports event. But her greatest joy of all was, loving and spending time with her family.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Rose’s arrangements.

  7. Father, in the name of Jesus, I approach Your throne of grace, bringing Aunt Rose before you. I recognize that grieving is a human emotional process, and we give her the space the she needs to enter into that rest You have for her. Lord, Jesus bore Jerry, Larry and Danny’s griefs and carried there sorrows and pains. I know that Your Spirit is upon Jesus to bind up and heal their broken Hearts. May they be gentle with themselves, knowing that they are not alone in their grief. You will never leave them without support. Give us, family and friends and prayer partners, discernment, sympathy, and understanding so that we may bear their burden of loss. Thank You Father, for sending the Holy Spirit to comfort, counsel, help, intercede, defend, strengthen. and stand by them in there time of grief and sorrow. In Jesus name, Amen.

  8. Trina & Scott Adermann & Family says:

Our family wishes to extend to all of you our deepest sympathy and hugs, prayers to you all. Growing up, I was always delighted when we had visits from aunts and uncles. It was a time when all the adults gathered around the table, played cards, reminisced over coffee and caught up on what was going on with each others families. Rose sometimes would pay us a visit or sometimes we would catch up with her at another family member’s place. It was a delight to hear her talk about the good old days and to hear her talk about her job teaching, growing up, and her pearls of wisdom (loved those). She will indeed be missed. And though she has now gone on to dwell in one of our Father’s many mansions, I know Rose’s great love for family and friends will not go by the wayside. May those post cards from heaven wing their way from her heavenly mailbox to each of you and share in it’s contents lots of memories of the good times that you all had and will now treasure. Remember memories are something that can never be lost as the "love and care" she instilled in each of you in your upbringing, tutoring and in the measure of the relationships that she maintained. May those post cards be a thing that in the days ahead will help sustain you< May you honor her memory by sending a post card back.

  9. Rose was a great teacher and a wonderful lady. She loved watching her grandchildren when they played sports. You would see her not only at the gym but also at the ballfields. She was a special lady and I feel privileged to have known her. Special thought and prayers are being sent to her family.
