Rose Mary was born on August 24, 1941, in Hyde County, South Dakota, to Owen and Gladys (Hamblin) McWeeny. She attended and graduated from Highmore High School. In June 1959, she married the love of her life, Clayton Alfson. Together they welcomed their son, Ricky, and made their home in Highmore, where they spent their lives together.

For many years, Rose Mary’s greatest joy was caring for her family and supporting Clayton in his business. In the early 1980s, she began working at Highmore Health, where she faithfully served residents for more than 30 years before retiring in 2013.

Rose Mary had a lifelong love of reading and rarely went without a good book in her hands. Her favorite book was the Bible, which she read faithfully throughout her life. She was always willing to lend a hand, whether that meant making parts runs for Clayton’s shop or helping family whenever she was needed. Her quiet faith, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will be remembered always.

Her memory will be cherished by her son, Ricky (Rachel) Alfson of Canton; grandchildren: Anika, Carrington (Maddie), and Emmerson; great-grandchildren: Ezra and Royce; step-children: Rache, Richie, and Raven;

two sisters: Betty Schillinger of Miller and Dorothy (Lowell) Broberg of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton, in 2010; two brothers, Gene McWeeny and Elbert McWeeny; two sisters, Agnes Johnson and Adeline Whipple; and one granddaughter, Kennedy Alfson.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Rose Mary’s arrangements.
