Ruby D. Ruckman, 87, of Hoven, SD passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Bowdle Healthcare Center.
Funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the American Legion Hall, Hoven, SD with Rev. James Ruckman and Rev. Brad Ohler presiding. Burial followed in the Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, SD with Rev. Sam Ruckman presiding. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the hall with visitation two hours prior.
Ruby Doris Webb was born October 7, 1930 to Lawrence and Mabel (Sammons) Webb in Yolan, West Virginia.
Ruby was a graduate of Catonsville Community College, Catonsville, MD. Following her education, she was an employee of North West Hospital in Randallstown, MD.
In 1948, Ruby moved to Baltimore, MD where she met the love of her life, William “Blair” Ruckman. They were united in marriage on July 23, 1949. Over the years they hosted numerous foster children, adopting six of these children. They also had three of their own, blessing them with 9 children. Ruby and Blair received an award from the Governor of Maryland for their years of service as foster parents.
Ruby had a love for music, children, animals, and God. She was a devoted Christian and devoted wife to her husband Blair. Ruby sang in the choir and taught Sunday school to little children. She loved her Sunday dinners, car rides, traveling, eating fried chicken and spending time on her front porch with family.
Ruby’s life will be cherished by her husband William “Blair” Ruckman of 68 years who is a spiritual Fire Fighter; her children: William B. “Sam” (Leslie)Ruckman of Hoven, SD, Barry (Dorcas) Ruckman of Greencastle, PA, Lawrence Ruckman (Joyce) of Reisterstown, MD, Carol (Roy) Temple of Sioux Falls, SD, Donna (Neil) Sisler of Elysburg, PA, Dennis (Susan) Ruckman of Westminster, MD, Russell (Becky) Ruckman of Sykesville, MD and Tammy Ruckman (Aboubacar Soulama) of Reisterstown, MD; 23 grandchildren; 40 plus great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sibling in infancy.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Ruby’s arrangements.

Prayers to the Ruckman family. I had the pleasure of knowing Ruby and the entire Ruckman family growing up in Pikesville, MD attending Colonial Baptist. She was a "mom" to all of us kids at the church. She blessed the hearts of everyone she met.
So sorry for your loss. Prayers and comfort. She was a wonderful woman.
