Ruby Peters, 82, of Gettysburg, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011, at the Gettysburg Memorial Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gettysburg with Fr. Jerry Kopel officiating. Burial followed at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Seneca. Visitation was held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Luce Funeral Home, Gettysburg. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. and a scripture wake service at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the church.
Ruby Yvonne Peters was born December 29, 1928 at home on a farm in Potter County to Gerald and Matilda (Gross) Duncan. She attended country school, one year at Hoven Parochial School and Seneca grade school and graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1947. Following graduation she attended Northern State College summer school and received a teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools in Faulk County.
On April 14, 1958 Ruby married Linden Lower. They made their home in Seneca where they ran a service station. Later they moved to Tracy, MN, Knob Noster, MO, Rapid City, and Gettysburg where Linden passed away August 26, 1964.
Ruby married Gerald Peters on July 3, 1967. They made their home on a farm in Potter County. Ruby worked many different places in Gettysburg, including the Busy Bee Café, Gettysburg City Finance Office, Lyle's Red Owl Store, and Bohnhoff’s Meat Market. During Ruby’s spare time she remained active in the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary, Home Workers Club, Lebanon Ladies Birthday Club, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Altar Society. Ruby has organized the funeral lunches of the Catholic Church since 1975. Ruby also enjoyed time spent in her flower garden, mowing the lawn, time with her family especially the grandchildren, visiting with neighbors and friends, canning and collecting red dishes. Ruby will always be remembered for lending a helping hand when in need.
Survivors include her husband: Gerald of Gettysburg; father: Gerald “Brick” Duncan of Gettysburg; her sons: Lynn Lower of Gettysburg and Rex Lower of Ft. Pierre; her grandchildren: Jared Lower and special friend Ollie Nauman of Gettysburg, Alonna (Brent) Krueger of Minot, ND and Dustin (Megan) Lower of Lebanon; three great grandchildren: Kerrigan and Jonas Krueger and Brooke Leigh Lower; brother: Raymond Duncan of Lakeside, AZ; sister: Mary (Dale) Eriksen of Lebanon; nephew: Marty (Carol) Eriksen and family Kylie, Skyler and Stetsen of Presho and numerous other relatives.
Ruby was preceded in death by her mother Matilda Duncan and husband Linden Lower.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Ruby’s arrangements.
