Ruth Sivertsen, 94, of Miller, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Highmore Health.
Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, Miller with Rev. Janice Palmer officiating. Burial followed at Morningside Cemetery, Ree Heights. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 22, 2018 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.
Annie Ruth was born April 28, 1924, to James and Ruby (Fawcett) Lobban at their farm home in Cedar Township in Hand County. She attended rural schools in Cedar Township. She graduated from Alpena High School in 1943. Following high school, Ruth completed nurses training at the Methodist Hospital in Mitchell, SD, and was a cadet in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps created during World War II. She began her nursing career at the Miller Hospital which was located above the Opera House on main street. Two new hospitals were built before her retirement in 1989. Ruth loved her profession and cared deeply for her patients.
She married DeWayne Emret Sivertsen on February 21, 1948 at the Congregational Church in Fort Pierre, SD. They lived on a farm in southern Hyde County until 1954 when they moved south of Ree Heights to the Lobban family farm. Together they raised six children while working side-by-side on the farm. In 2007, they moved into Ree Heights and in 2017, she moved to the assisted living in Miller.
Ruth was a member of the Cedar Congregational Church and the First Presbyterian Church in Miller. She was a member of the Hilltop Grange, Ree Heights Legion Auxiliary, Hand County Hospital Auxiliary, Highmore Roundup Club, Miller School Board, and was an active 4-H parent. Ruth enjoyed gardening, canning, rock collecting, sewing, and cooking; winning second place in the 1959 National Grange Baking Contest. Win or lose, she was always an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
Ruth’s family was her first priority and she loved attending her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s events. She will always be remembered as a strong, generous, and loving lady.
Thankful to have shared her life are her children: Judy (Galan) Wallman, Garner (Sally) Sivertsen, Joan Sivertsen, Janice (Keith) Volek, Robert (Vicki) Sivertsen, and Joyce (Lynn) Swaney; grandchildren: Travis Sivertsen, Jason Wallman, Ryan Thompson, Tera Busenitz, Chad Thompson, Brock Wallman, Nathan Wallman, Darcy Tenan, Angie Carlson, Tyler Swaney, Kristin Wallman, Dustin Volek, Andy Sivertsen, Annie Freudenthal, and Britney Geppert; 26 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Leona Lobban, LaVonne Kusser, and Mary Ann Sivertsen; brother-in-law, Eddie (Christine) Sivertsen; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, DeWayne; brothers: Alex Lobban, James Lobban, and infant brother; sisters: Allie Alice Lobban (at one year of age), Edna Hasart, Nellie Jager, Margaret Knippling, and Christina Smith; sisters-in-law: Irene Lobban, Shirley Sivertsen, and Clara Sivertsen; brothers-in-law: Thomas Hasart, August Jager, Paul Knippling, Gene Smith, Vernon Sivertsen, Leland Sivertsen, and Wilmer Sivertsen.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Ruth's arrangements.




I’m sad, but at peace. I will sure miss that little lady. She will always have a very special place in my heart. I’m glad I was able to take care of her and get to know her. I’ll miss u my little Ruthy. Fly high with those Angels.
Jean and I offer our sincere condolences on "mom" Ruth’s passing. She will always be remembered as that gentle and caring soul. Ruth was a second mom to me, as when my family relocated to WI, I had the opportunity to reside with the our friends and neighbors – Ruth and DeWayne. May the Lord bless and keep her.

So sorry to hear of Ruth’s passing. Last time our paths crossed was we popped into her Ree heights house and chatted for an hour or so, she was the same Ruth we always knew. That ree heights farm house fridge, with the freezer on the bottom, always made for ice cream breaks for us kids. Your sivertson kids our thoughts and prayers are with you.
