Ted Schaff, 57, of Ree Heights, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 31, 2013 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller with Father Chester Murtha, celebrant.

Ted was born in Bismarck, North Dakota to Frank and Delores (Miller) Schaff.  He attended and graduated from Flasher High School.  After graduating, he worked construction around the Bismarck area.  He traveled to various places across the United States working road construction jobs.  Ted returned to North Dakota to work in the oil fields in Dickinson.  Later, he ventured to Alaska to mine gold.  Ted rejoined his father at the family farm; soon after he began his own farming operations.

In 1984, he married Annette Hoff and together they began a family with their three boys: Theodore F. Schaff, Jr., Weston Schaff and Austin Schaff.  In 1990, he and his family moved to Ree Heights, South Dakota where he spent the next 20 years as a dairy farmer with his sons.

Hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle were some of Ted’s favorite pastimes.  He also loved socializing with family and friends.

Ted is survived by his three sons: Theodore, Jr., Weston and Austin Schaff; wife, Annette Hoff; mother: Delores (Clarence) Morris; siblings: Frank (Sharon) Schaff, Jerry (Brenda) Schaff, Ben Schaff, Susan (friend, Daryl) Schaff, and Peggy (Nate) Erstad; 6 nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank A. Schaff, Sr.; great nephew, Caleb Schaff; and grandparents: Adam and Anna Schaff and Max and Anna Miller.

The family invites anyone who owns a motorcycle to ride it to the funeral.  It’s what Ted would have liked.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Ted’s arrangements.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to you boys at this sad time in your lives. It is never easy losing a parent, especially one so young. Your good boys and know that your Dad was proud. Sincerely, Debbie B.

  3. To the Ted Schaff family. May Gods love, peace, and strength be with you now. May you find some joy and laughter in the many memories and stories you will hear about your dad. We grew up next to your dads childhood farm, and were neighbors to the Schaff family and loved every bit of it. They are good people, your dad was a good man. Let the fond memories live through you. Take what he has taught you, and trusted you with, and keep it living on. We will miss Ted a lot, but will always cherish the memories. Peace be with you. Take care of each other. Mike Gustin
