Velma Walker, 88, of Highmore, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the Highmore Health in Highmore, SD.
Funeral service were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the United Methodist Church, Highmore with Rev. Kori Lehrkamp officiating. Burial was at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Huron. Visitation began one hour prior to the service at the church.
On January 12, 1927, Velma Marie was born at Holabird, South Dakota to John and Luella (Smith) Hirsch. She grew up and received her education in Hyde County; graduating in 1945 from Highmore High School. She was united in marriage to Glenn Walker on October 7, 1945 at Highmore. To this union, one daughter and one son were born.
Velma and her husband lived in Highmore for over 20 years before moving to Huron in 1967 and to Brookings in 1976, purchasing the Malinda Motel. They retired and moved back to Highmore in 1988. Glenn passed away on January 21, 1998.
Her memory will be cherished by her one son, Jerry and wife, Susan; grandson, Scott and wife Tricia, great grandchildren: Molly, Sydney, and Lucy Walker, all of Watertown, SD; one daughter, Bev, and grandson, Zach Walker, both of Marshfield, MO; one sister, Jaqueline Figaniak of Philadelphia, PA; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; parents; one brother, George; and sisters: Helen Burrows, Lillian Larson, Doris Morton, and Shirley Klebsch.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Velma’s arrangements.




Rest in peace Aunt Velma. We will miss you and your amazing laugh!

Velma was a hoot to visit with at the Home. I’ll miss her.
I always enjoyed visiting with Velma at the Highmore Healthcare Center. She was always so much fun to talk to and always had a smile and a quick come-back. Cherish the memories. Sincere Sympathy
