Vera Shaull

Vera A. Shaull, 97, of Miller, passed away May 30, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Center in Miller, SD.
Funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church, Miller, with Pastor Teresa Whetsel officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at the G.A.R. Cemetery.
Vera Alice Johnson, daughter of Alma E. (Ellis) and Henry E. Johnson, was born on May 22, 1922 in Cedartown, Georgia. Vera attended elementary school in Ingersoll, Oklahoma and then went on to graduate high school from Cherokee High School in Cherokee, Oklahoma in 1941. Vera earned her degree in trade and industrial education at Alva, Oklahoma in 1943.
Vera met and married Jesse N. Shaull on December 30, 1945. The couple moved to South Dakota after WWII, where they began their life together in Blunt, SD. They later moved to Miller, where they made a home throughout their married life. The couple owned and operated Highmore Livestock Exchange until the passing of Jesse.
Vera was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Miller where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of United Methodist Women, Eastern Star, ladies circle and bible study in Miller.
Vera was a homemaker, and she enjoyed being involved in her children’s activities. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, her weekly coffee group, golfing and spending time with her family and friends.
Her memory will be cherished by her two children: Nathan Shaull of Highmore and Gaye (Paul) Nachreiner of Wolsey; six grandchildren: Robyn (Chris) King of CA, Ryan (Sarah) Brown of Dallas, TX, Carey (Taylor) Jans of Huron, Nicholas Shaull (Heather Banker) of Des Moines IA, Cedrik Boomsma of Spearfish and Chessa Boomsma (William Miner) of Huron; nine great-grandchildren: Arianna, Ava, Knox, William, Jackson, Nathan, Franklin Colton and Lillian; two sisters: Charlene West (Johnnie) Oklahoma City, OK and Tony Forgash (Don) of Tehachapi, CA.
Greeting her in Heaven are her parents; her beloved husband, Jesse; daughter, Roxie; two brothers: Clyde and Harrold; and five sisters: Jewell, Johnnie, Patti, LaVele, and Mary.
A special thank you to the caregivers and staff of the Good Samaritan Center for the years of care and love you’ve given to Vera. It is greatly appreciated by her family.
