Vernon Wahlen, 69, of Faulkton, passed away, Monday, January 20, 2014 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 24, 2014 at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor Bill Hoffman officiating. Burial followed in the Faulkton Cemetery with military honors. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton.

Vernon was born August 6, 1944 in Faulkton to Ray and Maxine (Stanley) Wahlen; the oldest of five children.  He grew up in Faulkton and attended Faulkton High School, graduating in 1963.  He served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1969, a year of that in Viet Nam.  After being honorably discharged from the Army, he took a job in Minneapolis, MN, where he worked for about 15 years before returning to Faulkton.

Vernon always had fond memories and recollections of his friends and family in the Faulkton area, both as an adult and as a child, experiencing one of the many adventures he always found himself in the middle of with his brothers and friends.

Vernon was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

He is survived by one brother, Roger (Micki) Wahlen, St. Charles, IL, and two sisters, Linda (Nick) Roseland, Pierre, SD and Marsha (Pat) Huss, Brighton, CO.  He was a favorite uncle to, and is survived by 27 nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Stanley Wahlen; and one niece.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Vernon’s arrangements.

  1. to the family of Vernon I truly will miss that smile when he visited the Nursing home and the times I got to pick on him when he visited and lived here for a short time. I always enjoyed our conversation we had. He will be missed by the community, my prayers go out to the family. God is taking good care of him.

    He always enjoyed getting together with some men at 5 in the afternoon at the convenience store.

Revelation 21:4 make this promise, it says: ” And he (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will morning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” What a beautiful promise, we all look forward, from our loving Creator, (Jehovah God, Psalm 83:18). May the God of peace be with you and your family.

  8. My thoughts and prayer go out to Vernon’s family. He will be missed. I will miss his visits with me when he would stop at Ber Mac’s Convenience store. RIP Vernon.

  9. We were so sorry to hear of Vernon’s passing. Dans mom and your mom were in hospital same time when Vernon and Dan were born. They always kidded about being twins. We always enjoyed visiting with Vernon when we visited Faulkton. We went to school with him for many years..Our deepest sympathy is being sent your way.
