Walter G. Fanger, 76, of Miller, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008 at the Hand County Memorial Hospital, Miller.

Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, Miller with Rev. Mary Ann Sheldon officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Walter was born January 1, 1932 to Walter and Inez (Burger) Fanger in Sully County, South Dakota.

On July 31, 1952 he enlisted into the United States Army and was given an honorable medical discharge in October of 1952. He later married Janith McKinney on January 13, 1957 and to this union three children were born. On August 31, 1990, he married Virginia Ross and they resided in Miller. He worked for Wilbur Feed and Seed and later for Pioneer Garage for thirteen years. On July 5, 2003, he was diagnosed with cancer and retired.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and collecting anything with Pheasants.

Grateful to have shared in his life are his wife: Virginia Fanger of Miller; daughter: Sally Staufer of Pierre; son: Keith (Kelli) Fanger of Sturgis; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three step children; three step grandchildren; four sisters: Rose Forman of Miller, Bess (Rolly) Aman of Aberdeen, Alice Sandmeier of Lakewood, Colorado, and Della (Duane) Wilkins of Huron; brother: Warren (Diane) Fanger of West Jordan, Utah; son-in-law: Allan Hale; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter; and daughter: Billie Hale.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Walt's arrangements.

We have known Walt a good many years and remember the many good times we used to have with everyone.Dances,house parties, playing cards etc.I thought Walt was improving some so was a bit surprised of his passing.     I stopped in and saw Jr and his Wife a couple of years ago.
