July 6, 1928 ~ July 4, 2018

Wilbur “Pete” Fremark, 89, of St. Lawrence, passed away into glory on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller. Just two days short of celebrating his 90th birthday. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones; his wife of 62 years, Anita, holding his hand.

Memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Community Church of St. Lawrence with Pastor Jim Hofman officiating. Private burial with military honors was held at the St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation was held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, July 8, 2018 with a 5:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.

Wilbur “Pete” Arnold Fremark was born on July 6, 1928 above his grandparents’ grocery store in St. Lawrence, SD to Arnold and Annie (Clegg) Fremark. Graduating from St. Lawrence High School in 1946, Pete continued to join the family farm/ranch in St. Lawrence. In 1951, Pete joined the U.S. Army, training to serve in the Korean War. He was a part of the Guided Missile Corp stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. Upon the end of the war in 1953, he returned home to the farm. His return was perfectly timed for a community dance being held in the old Miller Armory, because also attending this dance was a blonde haired, blue eyed nurse named Anita VanDenBerg.   And on September 4, 1955, he married Anita at the Methodist Church in Miller. They made their home on the family farm.

Pete enjoyed being involved in his community. He served as the Post Commander for the Fremark-Arbogast Post of the American Legion in St. Lawrence until the merging with the American Legion of Miller. His hobbies included anything to do with his great love for agriculture, serving on the Hand County Soil Conservation Board, and Farmland Co-op. Pete served many years in leadership at the Community Church of St. Lawrence as a deacon and teaching Sunday school classes. He had a passion for serving his Lord by helping others learn more about the Bible, prayer, and grace and salvation in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Blessed and grateful to share in his life was his wife, Anita Fremark; their two children: David (Lori) Fremark and Julie (Russell) Nacke; six grandchildren: Peter Fremark, Kelli (Aaron) Van Vuuren, Maggie (Andy) Daum, Jake Fremark (fiancé, Scout Sudbeck), Mitchell Nacke, and Maxwell Nacke; three great grandchildren: Rosalind Van Vuuren, Eloise Van Vuuren, and Elizabeth Daum; and a great number of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pete lived a full life that was well loved. It is an understatement to say he will surely be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Annie Fremark; brothers, Eston and Gerald; and sisters, Doris and Lois.

The family would like to thank the teams of staff at Avera Home Health of Miller, Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital, and the Good Samaritan Society of Miller for their compassion and kindness to Wilbur in these final years of life. Your hard work and dedication is truly appreciated.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Pete’s arrangements.
