William C. High Bear, Sr., “Oun Mazakan” 65, of Dupree, entered the spirit world Monday, July 27, 2020 at Monument Health Hospital, Rapid City, SD.
Due to current COVID regulations set forward by CRST Tribal Council, a private service will be held.
Wm. Carl High Bear Sr. was born on January 5th, 1955 at the Old Cheyenne Agency to Paul High Bear Sr. and Amy Garter. He attended Old Agency School and a variety of other schools. He later worked as a rancher in the Marksville area. He always lent a helping hand to other local ranchers.
After Carl was forced to sell out by the government, he worked as a security guard at a prison in Swiftbird. While there, he met Peri Lynn Gray who he married in 1981. To this union, three kids were born: William High Bear Jr., LeAnn Thompson, and Marie High Bear.
Carl also worked as an Indian Highway Safety Officer, an EMT on the Eagle Butte Ambulance, an employee of the BIA roads department, and in various other positions. In 1990, he married his wife Lindell In The Woods. To this union, six children were born: Storm V., Starlyn, Carlys, Karlisle, April, and Zach High Bear. In 2014, Carl and Lindell gained their seventh child together, Thunder Storm High Bear.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Martin and Richard High Bear; his sisters, Paulette and Pauline; his son, Storm V; half brother, Joe High Bear; his aunt, Arlene Hodgekiss and Alice High Bear; his nephew, Jared Keith Brant; and his niece, Kelli Rose Blossom.
Carl will be greatly missed by his wife, Lindell; his kids: William (Deedra), LeAnn (Tuffy) Thompson, Marie, Starlyn, Carlys, Karlisle, April, Zach, and Thunder; his grandkids: Arianna, Priscilla, Haden Thompson, Hadley Thompson, Haylee Thompson, Raven Lends His Horse, and Rami’elle; his siblings: Darrell (Joan) Garter, Lola, Lynne (Shane Brown), Melynda (Ronnie Brant), Terry (Debbie), Paul Jr., Barbara, and Melda (Melvin) Garreau, and many other friends and family members.
Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with William’s arrangements.

Though I never got to meet you, I want to send up a prayer and thank you Carl for raising such an amazing family. Ive gotten to know a few members of your family and in everyway they are amazing.
Your daughter Carlys has told me so many amazing stories that makes me smile and laugh. The amazing things she has shared about you makes me wish I could've shook your hand, sat down and had long conversations together.
I'm sorry we never got to meet.
But I know you must of been an amazing man because you brought up an amazing family and my bestfriend.
The amount of thank yous I could say to you are endless.
But I will say this, thank you for creating Carlys. She is my bestfriend and has become my family.
If you are anything like her, then I know you were funny, hard working, kind hearted, sarcastic, fun loving and caring man.
My love & prayers surround your family during this great loss.
